Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles

Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles® is that they have paved the way for other female mariachi groups to exist at the professional
level.

Established in 1994, the group had a strong beginning thanks to the mentorship of Lola Bertran, La Reina de La Musica Ranchera. In these early days, ten-time Grammy nominee Maestro Jose Hernandez (founder and director of Mariachi Sol de Mexico) saw the potential in this all-female ensemble and fostered its development.  In just a few years, Reyna became the first female Mariachi to break out of local level recognition to international stardom with original compositions, arrangements and interpretations of mariachi classics. 

Noteworthy accomplishments include sharing the stage with world-renowned musicians like Vicki Carr, Guadalupe Pineda and Lucha Villa, playing private concerts for superstars such as George Harrison and John Travolta, and debuting at the Hollywood Bowl. A career highlight was performing at The White House for President Obama's Cinco De Mayo celebration.

Their success has so greatly impacted Latino culture that the US Government’s official historical archives, The Smithsonian Institute, has recognized them – releasing Reyna’s self-titled album, one of six internationally distributed of the group.
