Calling All Artists: Showcase and sell work in the Clark Center Visual Arts Exhibit

We are now accepting applications from fine artists who are interested in displaying and selling their work!

Our lobby is filled with art from local artists year round! Mixed media such as oil, watercolor, pastels, pen and ink, sketching, etc. are encouraged, as well as sculptures and photography.

Although we do not charge artists to exhibit, we humbly ask that 20% of the proceeds from pieces that sell be invested back into our student scholarship and grant programs. These scholarships benefit graduating seniors who will be pursuing an education in the arts.

Art pieces are juried for content acceptability and 10 artists will be selected to display their work for two consecutive months.

Susanna Lindsey
Drawing

As a self-taught artist, Susanna Lindsey has been creating since the 70’s when she started taking art classes in drawing and acrylic painting. Since then, she has expanded her practice to other mediums such as watercolor, photography, ceramics, and copper jewelry before her current interest- abstract drawing with felt tip pens.

Until Susanna delved into the world of abstracts, her work was more “precise” and in her opinion, “inside the box”. Abstract drawing has allowed her artistic freedom without boundaries.

Susanna moved to Pismo Beach in 2004 and draws tremendous joy from her community and life at the beach. Her artwork has been shown in the Beacon Art Shows of 2023 & 2024 and was honored to be one of two judges in the Annual Congressional Artist Competition in 2023. You can also view her artwork at the Morro Bay Art Gallery in Morro Bay, California.

Nicolette Mathieson
Abstract Expressionism

Having been an artist since age 4, Nicolette Mathieson feels both peace and excitement in creating each new painting. She feels that each piece is “a miracle” since she experiences chronic nerve pain as a result to an auto accident in 2006. In addition to this, Nicolette suffered a broken right arm and damaged her fingers in 2020. Nicolette is known for her perseverance, and despite her chronic pain, she still finds the strength to be creative. Nicolette decided to start painting large 24x36 mixed media abstracts with texture in 2023, and calls this medium “Abstract Expressionism”. Creating art is a form of therapy for Nicolette and allows her distraction from her chronic pain and brings her joy. Many viewers have told her these textured abstracts are “Happy Art”.

Nicolette has made her abstract works into unique art t-shirts and notecards using sections of her large originals. Living on the Central Coast for over 42 years, Nicolette often says, "I Love to be creative!", and finds peace in realizing that the word “pain” is also in the word “painting”.
